A recent study conducted by the Rippe Lifestyle Institute has found that in addition to lowering cholesterol, eating oatmeal can also be part of a weight loss plan. The results of the study, which were presented on October 23, 2006 at the North American Association for the Study of Obesity (NAASO), found that people who ate a bowl of Quaker Weight Control Instant Oatmeal as part of an overall reduced calorie weight loss plan, which included walking, lost significant amounts of weight and body fat when compared to control subjects who only exercised. Weight loss management has been the most unsuccessful part of a weight loss plan for most individuals. It is often easier to drop the pounds than it is to keep them off for good. It’s on this basis that fad diets and other quick weight loss diets are ill-advised. Weight loss management involves maintaining your weight within healthy range (as you solidify your new lifestyle) after successfully losing weight and getting into a healthy range. Effective weight loss is about losing weight and keeping it off. It is about getting proper management of your weight. It involves loss of body weight and not lean body mass and water as is often the case with ineffective weight loss plans. The weight loss guide Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle considers effectiveness as core in weight loss management. Effective weight loss ensures permanent loss of weight. The people who only walked did not lose weight. People in the walking plus reduced calorie diet group, which included oatmeal, lost approximately one pound per week with significant weight loss apparent at one month and continuing for the twelve weeks of the study. "Previous studies have shown that oatmeal can contribute to lowering cholesterol as part of a heart healthy diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol and now we have these additional data that oatmeal can also be part of a healthy weight loss program," said Mark Andon, Ph.D., former Director of Nutrition for Quaker-Tropicana-Gatorade.

The 7 day diet is based on the fat burning food cabbage. The 7 day diet can be very rigid and hard to stick to, but promises up to 10 pounds a week weight loss. Basically, the 7 day diet plan with cabbage soup consists of this:

On day one you can eat all fruits except bananas, as well as cabbage soup. The only drinks you are allowed is water and unsweetened tea. The cabbage soup is created by using a head of cabbage, an onion, green peppers, onion soup mix, garlic cloves, 2 vegetable bouillon cubes, a can of diced tomatoes, a can of tomato juice, and additional spices to suit your tastes. Simply chop or dice all vegetables together into a large pot. Add water to cover all the ingredients and place on the stove on high heat. Allow this to come to a rolling boil and then reduce heat to low and simmer for about 10 minutes until all vegetables are tender
